FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Phoenix Theatres to
Reopen Frenchtown Square Movie Theatres
Michigan’s
Neighborhood Theatre Chain Brings 8 Screens Back to Monroe Co.
SEPTEMBER 14, 2007 –
Phoenix Theatres, an independently-owned movie theatre chain,
announced today it has signed a lease to reopen the 8 movie
screens at Monroe’s Frenchtown Square. The grand opening is
slated for November 2 and when area residents return they will
experience significant upgrades in all areas of the theatre that
recently closed. The grand opening will bring a movie complex
back to a community with very few choices in movie-going
entertainment.
“The Monroe-area
community will likely not recognize the movie theatre they once
knew at Frenchtown Square,” said Phoenix Theatres co-owner Cory
Jacobson. “Our goals have always been focused on bringing unique
and quality movie-going experiences to our customers with
advanced technologies and matchless service offerings, mixed in
with the sometimes not so obvious details that national chains
just cannot or will not instill into local movie theatres.”
State Representative Kate
Ebli (D-Monroe) is excited for residents in the community that
the Phoenix Theatres is about to celebrate its grand opening at
Monroe's Frenchtown Square.
"In any community, a
movie theater brings people together – and this was especially
true of the theatres at Frenchtown Square," said State
Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe). "Having a theater return to
this spot marks a tremendous step in the right direction for
Monroe. The more establishments that do business in Monroe, the
more vibrant our local economy, making our community an even
better place to live, work and play."
Improved Service,
Food, Ticketing, Projection and Sound Systems:
As a reflection of what southern Michigan and northern Ohio
customers can expect, Phoenix Theatres were the first Southeast
Michigan movie theatres to:
-
combine ticketing and
concession purchases into one line
-
offer free refills on
all drink sizes
-
create self-serve
drink stations for added service speed and convenience
-
provide online
tickets that the customer can print at either home or the
office, and/or email them to friends
Phoenix Theatres at
Frenchtown Square also will install all-new projection equipment
and DOLBY® digital sound technology in all 8 theatres. Phoenix
Theatres will be the only theatre in the community to offer
digital sound in every auditorium. A completely renovated
environment will drastically improve the ambiance of the
theatre, plus all new equipment and greatly expanded menu
choices in the concession area will provide customers a new
experience going to the movies at Phoenix.
State Representative
Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) is not only pleased first-run movies
will be a regular option for visitors to the Frenchtown
District, but that the entire entertainment district will be
revitalized with people looking to go out to dinner, shop and
enjoy a night out.
"Re-opening the doors of
this theater represents a vital investment in the residents of
Monroe County," said State Representative Kathy Angerer
(D-Dundee). "The new theater will help attract customers to the
shops in Frenchtown Mall and help them to prosper. Every
business that remains in Monroe means another job has been
protected, and that's key to growing our community and providing
a boost to our economy."
Frenchtown Square Mall is
a regional shopping center conveniently located at 2121 North
Monroe Street and is anchored by Sears, JCPenney, Elder-Beerman,
Steve and Barry’s and Phoenix Theatres, with over 50 retail
destinations.
“We are very excited
about the addition of Phoenix Theatres to our tenant mix,” said
Amy England, marketing director of the mall. “Most importantly,
we are happy to deliver a movie theatre back to the people of
Monroe. We encourage the community to support Phoenix Theatres
and utilize the unique amenities they are bringing to our local
theatre.”
Background:
Phoenix Theatres opened
its first theatre in 2001 in Detroit, making it the only movie
theatre at the time in the city of nearly one million people – a
fact which drew national media attention to the theatre complex
on Eight Mile Road near Van Dyke. In 2003, owners Cory Jacobson
and Charlie Murray opened a second Phoenix Theatres, in
Farmington Hills along Nine Mile Road. In both cases, Phoenix
saved and refurbished theatres previously-operated by national
chains, returning neighborhood theatres to their respective
communities.
“By re-energizing the
theatre in Monroe, Phoenix Theatres is expanding to an area that
doesn’t have many screens within a 20 mile radius, and when we
open there we’ll provide them the best entertainment experience
possible,” said Charlie Murray, co-owner. “We first developed
what other Michigan theatres have since begun adopting – like
free refills on popcorn. But additionally, we have tried to go
beyond and offer imaginative concession products that our own
families love to eat and select only the best quality brands
available.”
